It was based on the E28 5 Series and was introduced in 1985 at the Amsterdam Motor show. The car had the 535i chassis but got several mechanical upgrades such as the M88\/3 engine. When it was announced, the E28 M5 was the fastest sedan in the world, going from 0 to 100kph in only 6.7 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1988 E34 M5&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/jaEifecZyxR8rbmT3g6UYkRZriiiP_QYc8XkO1l8sgI8j4pzLQpICfX1PAbSWizn0YCdd5wVcc5uJ1ukWQmQd_mPyUIWjXfKWqLAhGpxnfF2xiPYWFv2K1eM8WmbMjqvOgWnJDWl\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The E34 had the S38 straight-6 engine under the hood and it was produced from 1988 to 1995. The car was manufactured in a sedan body style first and an LHD Touring model followed in 1992. It was underpinned by an S38B36 engine that could produce 311 hp and 360 Nm of torque. It could go from 0-97 km\/h in 6.3 seconds and offered a top speed of 250kph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1998 E39 M5&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/RNfCsfEuHxg9jazEXfdrXhpnr8tQK2eF8cdxbBeDtoB1Hz963UnmW5y_PXJpYqZqFmZmf1nqTkdtD4GyjOoR3hxTe4flqn6wj1Md144YWoaRLM_GXOLvWM0nFCNVm9_cumHLzIRz\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The E39 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998. It was the first M5 to be fueled by a V8 engine, which increased power output to 394 hp. The car could churn out 500 Nm of torque. This was also the first M5 to feature aluminium front suspension parts as well as a multi-link rear suspension. The car took just in 5.3 seconds to go from a standstill to 100kph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2005 E60 M5&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/JxK23pvkWDcHdlPEMNkea-t9mElD0la-t6VS5NHPVZDd6hBksNQBuokOHd5ReopcG8K-fiC4Qu1ejQb3p1xzFMXycGUaXN-E2UDjukXLY0-gHHPtuaiLgMCknnkI7Fz8cD9zF6zH\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Introduced in 2005, the E60 M5 had a V10 engine under the hood paired with a 7-speed transmission. It has the distinction of being the world\u2019s first production sedan to come with a V10 petrol engine. The whip could produce 510 horsepower and was the speediest 4-door sedan at that time. Top speed was 250 km\/h but with the M-driver&#8217;s package, it could reach 305 km\/h.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2011 F10 M5&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/SiUICFOLvoejE5yOBTK3JdIyXI700r2doZTUqlZ2VGFHSyKXID0fInqPxdMX0CuLymzqns7-L51E_-RFQ8JjzMXLE7HroHj6mhnPgKM6OlhvzXWqwfMEWck99YrMCEuRwdmRP9CT\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The F10 M5 made a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. It has a twin-turbocharged V8 engine inside, which makes it the first turbocharged M5 variant. It\u2019s also the first M5 to get a dual-clutch transmission, a 7-speed one at that.
