Porsche 917
Designed initially for endurance racing, the 917 proved its mettle winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Porsche 959
The 959 was originally designed as a Group B rally car. Grabbing the top spots in the 1986 and 1987 World Rally Group B Championship it did serve its purpose. Soon, however, it was withdrawn from the sport altogether due to high production and maintenance costs. A feat of technical achievement for Porsche, with features like lightweight composite body panels and tire pressure monitoring system, it was clearly years ahead of its time.
