Porsche has finally entered the world of electric cars with its sports car, Taycan. The 4-door coupe was first revealed by the German maker as a concept car called Mission E back in 2019. Two Versions Of The Taycan Will Be Available Initially
Two variants of the car have been revealed: Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. The name is kind of misleading as the vehicle doesn’t actually have turbochargers and is completely fueled by electricity. The Turbo S offers a horsepower of 751 bhp, while the Turbo cranks out 670 bhp. Thanks to the Overboost and a Launch Control system, Turbo S will be able to go from naught to 60 mph in only 2.6 seconds, while the Turbo will achieve the same in 3 seconds.
This is an all-wheel-drive series and each pixel is powered by an electric motor. There is also a torque-vectoring feature in place which sends power to one side to make it easier for drivers to turn the car into corners. Unlike most electric cars, the Taycan features a two-speed transmission for the wheels at the back. The first gear is for acceleration, while the second one has a longer ratio for improved efficiency at high speeds. The front wheels get single-speed transmission.
The Car Features Five Driving Modes
The Taycan has five driving modes including Sport, Sport Plus. Normal, Range, and Individual. The Range mode will maximize the energy efficiency of the car while the Individual mode will give liberty to the driver to adjust different settings. The battery of the ride has been placed on the floor to give it a low center of gravity. With fast chargers and favourable conditions, the Taycan can be juiced up to 80 percent in only 22 minutes and 30 seconds. The company says the car can go 280 miles on a single charge. Back to the design, the roofline also hangs low, which can be quite uncomfortable for passengers. To take care of this issue, the Taycan has something called foot garages to increase legroom.
On the inside, the Taycan is devoid of physical switches, gauges, and knobs. This is because all controls are provided via touch screens and glass computer displays. There is also a version with a leather-free interior that features recycled materials.

Price
The Turbo S will cost around $185,000, while the Turbo has a price tag of $151,000. Porsche also plans to offer more variants at lower price points later this year, but they won’t be as speedy. Next year, the company will also release Taycan Cross Turismo, an electric crossover SUV.
