Tesla had to recall over a hundred thousand of its Model S cars out of fear of corrosion of power steering bolts. Though Tesla has made such recalls before this is the first of such large volume. The electric car manufacturers fear that if the steering bolts fail due to excessive corrosion then maneuvering the car at low speeds would require more force and can cause difficulty in driving. The problem may not be so prevalent at high speeds as at that level only limited steering wheel force is needed. The good news for Dubai and UAE at large is that this problem manifests itself in very cold climates where the use of road salts to melt snow is commonly used. Where the threat of this problem is not imminent to UAE, Tesla has decided to recall all vehicles irrespective of climate. It says that the possibility of the vehicle being used in a highly corrosive environment in the future still puts the car occupants at risk and therefore recalling it is a safer option.
