A fascinating electronic car call system that informs the nearest police station automatically about an accident has been launched successfully in Abu Dhabi to expedite accident reports as well as emergency response times.

The out-of-the-ordinary e-Call system was unveiled by Abu Dhabi Police as part of the UAE Innovation Week that was accomplished on Saturday.

Forewarned is forearmed

The best thing about the new system is that it alerts the police control rooms all of a sudden within seconds in case of an accident. The authorities revealed that the new system will successfully aid the force and emergency services to offer assistance in the shortest span of time. The amazing part is that the new system has been introduced to all police command centres across the emirate.

“The new advanced system provides innovative solutions to enhance the speed of response when road accidents occur, and keeps pace with future efforts whereby vehicles will be fitted with this new technology,” the police let it be known in a statement.

“The system provides police with relevant information needed for emergency response and rescue and reduces the time needed for ambulance operations, thus increasing the speed of treatment — and consequently of survival of accident victims.”

The e-Call system to be fitted in new vehicles

UAE authorities had in 2019 made it public that all new vehicle models with the UAE will have the e-Call system fitted into them from 2021.

In addition, international accreditation for coping up with such automated vehicle accident emergency calls was given to the Abu Dhabi Police’s emergency centre.

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) had established the e-Call system in close cooperation with the Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology (Rana) as well as police authorities.

How the e-Call system works

Officials had earlier professed that when a collision takes place between two vehicles, or the vehicle had a collision with anything else, e-Call operates and communicates through the vehicle’s driver mobile network as a communication passage.

“The e-Call system is triggered as soon as in-vehicle sensors detect a serious accident. An emergency message is sent to police including the vehicle type, location, fuel type and number of passengers inside the vehicle,” officials revealed.

“The alert system can also be activated manually with the push of a button. When the report is sent, officers in the operations room establish a call through the system to speak to passengers to check if they are conscious.”

According to police, the new system will facilitate them to reach the site of the accident in just a few minutes.

“The system supports the automatic transmission of the report, and contributes to a pioneering role in enhancing the speed of response in accessing the site of the accident vehicle, and carrying out emergency and rescue operations,” officers professed.

The Abu Dhabi Police has let it be known that it was the first institution of its kind across the Middle East to implement the e-Call system in their command as well as control centres.
