If you plan to sell your car, you will need to navigate the process of transferring ownership. It can be a long and challenging process with several formalities and requirements. Given the COVID-19 situation, you might be wondering how you can do so currently. CarSwitch.com, an online marketplace to sell any car, did some research to help you understand the steps:

What documents do you need to transfer car ownership?

If you intend to sell any car to another buyer, you can take steps to cancel the car registration that’s under your name. Cancelling your car registration can be done easily. Generally, you will need to show the certificate of the seller’s vehicle ownership along with original (not photocopied) Emirates ID and a valid passport. Other required documents include Buyer’s original Emirates ID, along with a copy of a passport that is valid and residence visa in cases of non-GCC expat buyers.

You will also need to present your car insurance along with your car’s technical inspection certificate. These documents are mandatory since no exceptions are made.

Where should you submit the required documents?

The next question that arises is where should you submit these documents? If you are a resident of Dubai, there are multiple customer happiness centers you can go to. The more prominent ones are Umm Ramool, Al Manarah, Deira, Al Barsha, Al Aweer and Al Twar.

These centers have facilities where you can submit your documents to process transfer of ownership. For queries related to timings and other details, you can contact them at 800 9090. Centers in Tasjeel also provide this facility, you can call them at 800 3662 for details about location and timings. The same number will answer your queries related to centers in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

What is the processing fee if you want to transfer ownership?

The processing fee required for transfer of ownership varies from car to car. The processing fee required for a light vehicle is approximately Dh 350 and it increases according to the make of your car. The fee is entirely dependent upon the size and type of your car. According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the entire process is quick and takes up about five minutes. The happiness centers located in UAE make the entire procedure easier and much more convenient; they ensure that there are no unnecessary delays in transferring the ownership.
