Ford’s Nifty Trick To Keep Bed Hoggers On Their Side
Apart from snoring, bed hogging is something that can come in the way of peaceful sleep at night if you share your bed with someone. Sometimes, people find it hard to sleep on their side of the bed, and instead, keep tossing and turning the whole night. Needless to say, this disturbs the other person. Ford has a brilliant idea to solve this problem.
The company has put its lane assistant feature to good use. It is a technology that automatically nudges the car slightly to make sure it stays in its lane. The company has now implemented the same idea on a bed. The bed comes with pressure sensors that detect when a person has rolled over to the other side and employs a conveyor belt to move them back to their place.
People usually resort to stopgaps such as pillow barriers to keep the other person from taking over their side of the bed, but these solutions do not really work. The conveyor belt is an ingenious solution as it silently rolls to shift the bed hogger back to their side.

Ford Will Most Probably Not Commercialize The Idea
As good as this technology sounds, do not expect Ford to commercialize this idea anytime soon. This is just an experimental bed and serves as a proof of concept. It just goes on to show how Ford’s technology isn’t just limited to cars and there are practical alternative uses as well. However, the good news is that this prototype can inspire furniture makers to make something similar.
Of course, such a bed does raise some questions. For instance, would it move discreetly enough to not wake up people? Moreover, what kind of bed sheets would go over it? And lastly, how durable would such a bed be? And of course, such a motorized bed will most probably be a lot more expensive than your average bed.
But then maybe, the cost would be worth it for saving a relationship that’s in a precarious position because of a selfish sleeper.
This isn’t the first off-road invention demoed by Ford. The company has previously come out with similar projects to show how useful its innovations can be. For instance, its smart kennel project employs noise canceling to shut out the sound of fireworks and keep dogs sane and safe during public celebrations. Similarly, the company also developed a smart crib prototype that helps babies sleep faster by replicating car rides.
