The latest chapter of the blockbuster series is out and it’s generating quite a buzz among car enthusiasts in Dubai, UAE and movie lovers alike. Here at CarSwitch, we figured it’s as good a time as any to introduce you to some fascinating facts about the movie series that you have probably never heard of. 1- Heard of Vibe?
No, we are not talking about the superhero from The Flash. Vibe is a famous American music and entertainment magazine that featured a story called “Racer X” in its 1998 issue. The story is about illegal street racing in New York. Producers changed the title and adapted it for the first “The Fast and the Furious” movie.
2- No Stuntman for This Guy
Did you know that Paul Walker aka Brian O’Conner actually did some of the stunts in the movies himself? Remember the Nissan Skyline GT-R skidding into frame following Brian’s first race in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Yeah, that was his doing. And who can forget the high-speed 180-degree turn in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII in that epic highway chase scene. That was also Walker’s work. 3- Learn to Drive First
Prior to working on the films, neither Michelle Rodriguez nor Jordana Brewster knew how to drive. In order to get cast in the films, they had to get a driver’s license. Jordana had it tough though. For her part in the movie, she had to pass the test in one go for insurance purposes.
4- Calling All Cars
Your car could have been a movie star! IF this had happened in Dubai, that is. For Fast and Furious, Director Justin Lin issued an open casting call for cars that would potentially appear in the film. To get selected for background sequences, all they had to do was drive to the meeting place. Speaking of things happening in Dubai-did you know that in Furious 7 there is a scene where Dom Toretto speeds a car from one of the Etihad Towers into another? Keiichi Tsuchiya dubbed the ‘Drift King’, makes a cameo appearance in the movie as an angry old fisherman. Did you spot him?
