The short version

  • September sits in a rising-price window — prices tend to climb through January, so buying sooner is better than waiting.
  • December has historically been the cheapest month to buy, with prices about 4% below the yearly norm.
  • January is the priciest, running about 4% above it — if you’re selling, that’s your window.
  • On cars listed between AED 30,000 and AED 60,000, we’ve seen about 7% come off the asking price.
  • SUVs dominate Dubai — roughly six out of ten listings are SUVs, and about half of all buyer searches are for one.

Why September matters in the Dubai used car market

Summer is winding down. People are back from holidays, kids are in school, and life in Dubai gets moving again. That shift shows up in the car market too.

According to CarSwitch listings data (July 2026), prices follow a clear seasonal pattern. They dip in December — about 4% below the yearly norm — and peak in January, about 4% above it. September sits right in the middle of that upward climb. If you’re buying, earlier is better. If you’re selling, patience could pay off.

“After the summer slowdown, we see a real pickup in activity from September. Buyers come back with clearer budgets and sellers who listed in July finally get serious enquiries.”

The seasonal pattern: when prices rise and fall

Think of the Dubai used car market like a tide. It pulls back in summer, bottoms out in December, then surges through January and February before settling again in spring.

Here’s what that looks like in numbers:

CarSwitch seasonality data — like-for-like price shifts by month (July 2026)
MonthPrice vs yearly norm
December-4%
January+4%
February+4%
March+3%

That’s an 8-point swing from the cheapest month to the priciest. On an AED 80,000 car, that gap is roughly AED 6,000 to AED 7,000 — real money.

September doesn’t have a December-style dip working in your favour. But it doesn’t have January’s peak working against you either. It’s a middle-ground month where both sides can find fair value.

September: Where Prices Stand

What buyers should know right now

If you’re shopping for used cars in Dubai, September gives you two things: more inventory and more competition. Sellers who listed over the quiet summer months are ready to move. But other buyers are waking up too.

Here’s how to make that work for you:

There’s room to negotiate — if you know the range

On cars listed between AED 30,000 and AED 60,000, we’ve seen about 7% come off the asking price. On cars under AED 30,000, that figure has been closer to 9%. The higher the price bracket, the smaller the percentage tends to be — on cars above AED 200,000, it’s been closer to 5%.

These aren’t guarantees. Every car is different. But they give you a realistic starting point for a conversation.

Used still saves you a lot compared to new

The savings on a used car versus new are hard to ignore. A 2019 BMW 330, for example, lists around AED 76,000 on CarSwitch — roughly 73% less than the new sticker price. A 2018 BMW X5 sits around AED 81,000, which is about 83% less than new. Even a 2022 BMW X4 comes in around AED 187,000 — about half what it would cost at a showroom.

September is a good time to lock in those savings before prices trend upward through the end of the year.

From CarSwitch data
December is the cheapest month to buy: prices run 4% below the yearly norm.
January is the priciest: 4% above.
Cars listed at AED 30,000–60,000 have typically seen about 7% negotiated off asking.

What sellers should know right now

If you’re thinking about listing your car, September’s rising demand is on your side. More eyes on listings means more enquiries and a stronger position.

But here’s the thing: if you can wait until December or January, the data says January prices tend to peak. That’s when buyer urgency — new year, new visa cycles, fresh budgets — pushes prices up.

If you’d rather not wait, September is still a solid month to sell your car. Just price it fairly. Buyers are more informed than they used to be, and transparent pricing moves cars faster than optimistic pricing.

What’s actually selling in the Dubai used car market

SUVs. That’s the short answer. About 63% of all listings on CarSwitch are SUVs, and about half of all buyer searches are for one. Sedans come second at around 28% of listings and 24% of searches.

On the fuel side, petrol still dominates — about 62% of buyer searches. But hybrids are a growing slice at roughly a quarter of all searches. Electric sits at about 8%.

If you’re selling an SUV in Dubai, your audience is large. If you’re selling a sedan, it’s smaller but still real. Anything else — coupes, pickups, convertibles — is a niche play, and pricing it right matters even more.

City differences? Not really

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah are all within about 2% of each other on like-for-like pricing. That’s not enough to change your plans. Buy where the car is. Don’t drive to another emirate hoping to save — the difference isn’t there.

The bottom line for September

September is not the cheapest time to buy. That’s December. It’s not the most expensive time to sell. That’s January. But it’s the month when the market comes back to life, and that means more choices, more activity, and more chances to find the right fit.

If you’re buying, move before the end-of-year price climb picks up speed. If you’re selling, you’re catching the wave early.

Either way, every car on CarSwitch comes inspection-verified — so you’ll know exactly what you’re looking at. Browse inspection-verified cars in Dubai and see what’s out there right now.
