Choose the right car: Let’s start with the basics first! Without the right car, you can’t drift; it’s as simple as that. You will be ripping the handbrake at a speed of 45-65 km/h so learn counter-steering. Allow the car to turn up to a 45-degree angle, then grab the wheel and steer in the opposite direction. That way you can control the car until it stops. Gradually increase speed and practice control while doing both things until you are comfortable. And there you have it. Voila, you are drifting!
If you feel a loss in drift speed or angle while drifting then kick the clutch pedal in and out a few times while maintaining throttle to revive both speed and angle until you are comfortable with the drift. Of course, this is only relevant for manual transmission cars. If you are using automatic transmission, then your drifting nirvana might be short lived. Let’s do this!
Make safety a priority: Even the best drifters can lose control sometimes. So make sure that you drift only in an area where it is safe! That means an open area where there are no pedestrians or motorists. An enclosed race track, for e.g. the Dubai Autodrome, will be ideal since you need to consider not only your own safety but also that of any audience or bystanders.
