Soon after UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi announced that cars with expired registration will be snapped by cameras, Ajman is now following suit. Ajman police is now going to implement a smart detection system as part of their “Ajman is a safe city project” that will enable them to easily fine motorists with expired car registration. Violators will be caught by the system starting July 1. The tight surveillance could extend to Dubai as well, so folks who buy new or used car in Dubai, keep an eye on your car’s registration renewal date!

The system can detect cars with expired registration, and the violators will have to face a fine of Dh 500 fine and four black points. The vehicle will also be seized for seven days.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Mohammad Al Nuaimi, Deputy director of Police operations in Ajman, “The decision will save time and strengthen road safety”. He further added that “Motorists are required to renew their expired registration to stay away from fines.”

The project which started in 2016 has 450 video cameras installed on the main roads across the Emirate in the first stage. After signing a Memorandum of Understanding agreement (MoU) with Atlas telecom, Ajman has increased its surveillance by ten-fold.

The infrastructure of the software and the hardware has also been customized to meet the requirements of the Ajman Police Department and to help them have a wider and broader coverage of the city. Following these upgrades, they will have sharper tracking abilities, improved rapid response and better transparency.

The cameras will provide updates on road safety and traffic flow regularly through state-of-the-art communication methods such as effective reception, storage, protection and display of data. The cameras will be able to read vehicle number plates and control traffic flow. Moreover, police patrol cars would also be laced with these cameras.

With two cities taking the plunge, we might see a similar pattern in Dubai soon. In Dubai, car registration has to be done annually, within the 13 month insurance period. Otherwise, you would be sent back to update your insurance. Tasjeel Eppco (Dubai traffic department) and Emarat Shamil have all the details and locations of when and where you can get your car registered.

Whether you are in Dubai or Ajman, make sure that you renew your registration in time for both new and used cars in Dubai! If you want to avoid the hassle of buying a car, CarSwitch.com can help you. Happy Switching, folks!
