Audi has recently revealed the most budget friendly all electric models. These are the Q4 Sportback e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron which have a starting price of sub- $45k. Instead of concentrating on exhilarating performance, the manufacturer has chosen to pick compact crossovers.
Both of these are significant vehicles and for the first time, VW Group’s MEB platform is used. It is particularly designed for cheap EVs and will be in nearer reach as opposed to other all electric models. In case you are looking for used Audi cars in Dubai, you can see them on CarSwitch.
Exterior of Q4 e-Tron
Audi has revealed 2 body types for the electric crossover. The Q4 e-Tron comes with a conventional SUV style whereas the Q4 Sportback e-Tron has a sloped roofline at the trunk. Moreover, there is a spoiler in between the rear glass which divides the window for a better aerodynamic efficiency. This difference is not just due to style because the Sportback is more aerodynamic which adds 6 more miles of range. The drag coefficient of Sportback is 0.26 as compared to the SUV which is at 0.28.
Both the vehicles have identical wheels. As options, 4 different daytime running lights, sport suspension and matrix LED headlights are given. Moreover, Audi drive select with various modes are optional for Q4 e-Tron but standard in Q4 Sportback e-Tron. At the back, light bar and red Audi rings are observed. The grille design is blanked out similar to the other Audi EVs to improve electrification.
Active damper control for superior suspension is standard on both. The Sportback version is graced with an electric tailgate but it can be added to e-Tron with roof rails.
Battery and charging
There will be 3 trims for both vehicles. As for the base model, it will come with a rear wheel drive, 52 kWh battery to deliver 125 kWh and an electric motor. This battery is capable of giving a top speed of 9 seconds. While the Q4 e-Tron is expected to give 212 miles on the WLPT cycle, the Q4 Sportback e-Tron will give 217 miles.
When it comes to charging, the small battery offers 100 kW DC fast charging and 7.2 kW of AC charging. As for the bigger battery, the figures go to 11 kW on AC and 125 kW on DC. This allows 81 miles of range in only 10 minutes.
Interior
The Q4 e-Tron is 3.5 inches smaller than the Audi Q5. However, there is still more space on the inside which is obtained by the space efficient engineering of EV. The electric motor is pushed towards the axles and the battery is kept beneath the floor. Inside, there are raised rear seats having additional legroom.
The standard features include a heated windshield, automatic air conditioning and 3 zone HVAC. A panoramic glass sunroof is given as a choice. The pockets can store large sized water bottles.
There are a number of cup holders and space for a 4.4 liter storage in the front. The trunk storage is 18.4 cu-ft which is expanded to 52.6 cu-ft with the back seats folded. On two separate heights, a moveable trunk floor can be added.
The aluminum dashboard (having two different textures) includes Sonos audio, MMI infotainment system, a new steering wheel, and augmented reality Head-Up display. For the first time, touch sensitive controls and revamped 4 rings logo on the wheel are added. Most of the braking is done by regen.
Apart from two leather upholstery, animal friendly variety is also provided. The puls upholstery is offered in the S line cabin. A big percentage of the vehicles are constructed with recycled materials and the wood has a 3D texture. The touchscreen can be either of 10.1 or 11.6 inches.
Apart from this, a standard 10.25 inches digital display is also provided. The full virtual cockpit is optional whereas the natural language voice command which gets initiated with “Hey Audi” is standard. As a new feature, AR HUD adds another layer of graphics which float on the road at view. In Q4 e-Tron having Adaptive Cruise Assistance, the AR HUD displays graphics which explains everything about the system.
