The last decade has been a game changer for the motor industry. Apart from the influx of electrics and hybrids, we’ve also seen some pretty fast cars. CarSwitch.com, an online marketplace for certified used cars in Dubai, lists a few of these super-fast, record-breaking hits from the past decade.
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – 267mph
This car made headlines in 2010, when James May managed to max it out on the Ehra-Lessien test track at the speed of 259mph. Soon after, the record was broken when Pierre Henri Raphanel took it to 267 mph and it was titled as the fastest car in the world. However, that didn’t last long.
2. Hennessey Venom GT – 270mph
How is it possible to not include Hennessey in the list of fastest cars? So, it is but with a little debate. Cars need to do a two way average in order to qualify as being legitimate and Venom GT’s speed record 270mph was only in one direction. Also, due to it being handcrafted and low production, its qualification as the fastest production car was also questionable. Nevertheless, no one can deny that a 270mph is no easy feat
3. Koenigsegg Agera RS – 277 mph
Even though Bugatti had set quite the record, Koenigsegg didn’t want to fall behind. So, with its 1,340 hp Agera RS, it managed to get in the lead in 2015. Niklas Lilja upped the game by giving a two-way average of 277mph. At one point, it hit 285mph.
4. SSC Tuatara – 300mph (Claimed)
Shelby SuperCars (SSC) did get to be the producer of the fastest car for a brief period. In 2007, its Ultimate zero hit the mark of 265 mph but the Bugatti broke the record with its Veyron soon after that by hitting 268mph. SSC did tell us its plans to build a successor to the Ultimate Zero which was supposed to break the 300mph barrier but we haven’t seen it till now.
5. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ – 304 mph
Not long ago, we informed you about the Chiron prototype becoming the fastest production car and it was this one. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ driven by Andy Wallace broke the 300 mph barrier and once again a Bugatti reclaimed its throne as the fastest car in the world. It topped off at 304 mph.
