The Tesla Model Y does a family crossover's job on electricity: a big flat boot, a high driving position and almost nothing in the drivetrain to service. In the UAE it prices against large petrol SUVs and costs a fraction of them to run.

Frequently asked questions

In our closed UAE sales a 2024 Model Y averaged AED 129,000, a 2023 AED 113,000 and a 2022 AED 93,000, with a 2025 at AED 175,000. Current asking prices run from AED 108,000 to AED 158,000.

Not one of the Tesla Model Ys we inspect in the UAE has shown a fault in the drive unit, suspension or steering, against the 5% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage here, and interior staining appears on 6% against the 12% expected across that group. Tyres and suspension bushes are the wear items; no inspection figure covers the battery, which is the thing to have measured. Charging suits it too — public provision across Dubai and Abu Dhabi is well established and expanding, and a home charger makes the school-run week a non-event.

The BMW X5 is similar money with a third row available and a far more traditional feel; its panel record is strong, at 44% showing prior repair against the 65% expected for SUVs of its age and mileage. The Nissan Patrol returns about 43% too;

2022 to 2024 is where the sense is. The Model Y launched in 2020, and from 2022 the build quality and cabin insulation improved noticeably; the Juniper restyle in 2025 brought a new nose, a quieter body and a redesigned interior.

Just under its class and well clear of the rest of the Tesla range — about 43% of its value after five years, against roughly 45% for the SUVs it competes with. A Toyota Land Cruiser is in another league at about 63%.
