The Jimny is the model we can price year by year, and it explains where the demand is — a 2019 sold at AED 41,000, a 2022 at AED 48,000 and a 2024 at AED 66,000. The saloons and hatchbacks sit well below all of that.

Well, and better than their price suggests: Suzukis average about 56% of their value after five years across the models we can measure. The Jimny is the outlier that pulls upward, because there is nothing else like it at any price.

A Nissan or Kia gives you a bigger, better-equipped car for the same monthly outlay. Suzuki wins on fuel, insurance and repair bills, which is the whole argument.

Their strength is simplicity: naturally aspirated engines, conventional automatics, and little on board that can fail expensively. It also makes them cheap to put right, since parts and labour cost a fraction of the same job on a European car. The realistic weak points are heat-related — air conditioning, cooling, and suspension bushes on high-mileage city cars. On a budget purchase the inspection report is what stops a cheap car becoming an expensive one.

The Jimny if you can accept that it is small and slow on a motorway. The Ciaz is the surprise, a roomy saloon for hatchback money. The Dzire is the cheapest sensible family car and the Grand Vitara the one for ground clearance.
