The MG HS is the SUV that made buyers take the revived MG seriously — a family crossover with a turbocharged engine and equipment levels that embarrassed far dearer cars when new. We have 2 used HSs listed.
What to check on a used MG HS
Read the CarSwitch inspection report on our UAE MG HS listings before you commit — on a turbocharged budget SUV the servicing record is the whole difference.
Our UAE sales put a 2022 MG HS at about AED 45,000, a 2021 at AED 37,000 and a 2020 at AED 32,000. Buying used rather than a new MG HS saves about 21% on this model. Live asking prices run from AED 45,000 for an early car up to AED 65,000 for a current-year one.
The interiors survive better than the class: only 4% of the MG HSs we inspect in the UAE show interior staining, against the 15% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the country, at a median of about 61,000 km. The Ford Explorer reads 47% on that measure. Nothing in our findings rises above expectation, so the risk is not a model weakness but the individual car's servicing, which on a turbocharged engine matters.
Both Japanese rivals cost more, keep more of their money and are easier to service anywhere. The HS gives you far more equipment per dirham and a more modern cabin than a comparable Japanese budget reaches. Within MG, the ZS is smaller and cheaper; the RX8 is the ladder-frame seven-seater.
2021 to 2023. The HS launched at the end of the 2010s and was facelifted in the early 2020s with revised styling, a new interior layout and updated driver aids, before a second-generation car arrived. A 2021-onward car gets the improved cabin and is likelier to have warranty left.
Less well than the class — about 47% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for UAE SUVs and 52% across used MGs. That is the cost of the cheap new price — and why the used car makes sense. The Nissan X-Trail keeps about 54% and the Toyota RAV4 about 56%.
