Less than a petrol SUV of similar size, and less again than a plug-in hybrid from an established brand. Expect from AED 82,100 for the smaller battery pack up to AED 93,000 for a fully loaded, nearly new example — about 34% below the price of a new Song Plus.

Long enough that odometer wear is not the concern it is on a petrol SUV — the cars we inspect run a median of around 37,000 km, light use for a family SUV this size. What needs checking on an electrified car is battery state of health and charging hardware, not a timing chain or turbo seals. Charging access is optional rather than required, since the engine covers whatever the battery does not.

  • Battery state of health report from an authorized BYD service centre.
  • Remaining battery warranty in years and kilometres, not just the headline term.
  • Charging cable and onboard charger for damage or non-standard adapters.
  • 12V auxiliary battery, which fails independently of the main pack and is easy to overlook.
  • Full service history from an authorized centre, since software updates matter here as much as fluids.

Whichever one still carries its full manufacturer battery warranty. There is no old, unreliable generation to avoid here — the real filter is how many years of battery cover remain, since that decides what the car is worth to you five years out more than the plate does.

The Song Plus undercuts almost every petrol SUV in the class on running costs. The Nissan Kicks and Ford EcoSport are both far cheaper but carry more prior body or panel repair in our inspections, and neither offers a plug. The Honda CR-V costs more but brings the dealer network BYD is still building here. A charger at home makes the commute electric; without one the Song Plus still drives like any petrol SUV.
