Frequently asked questions

There is only one generation, so buy on specification rather than year. The Crown nameplate returned for the 2023 model year as a raised saloon on Toyota's newer platform, so any used example is a 2023-or-later car. The decision that matters is the drivetrain: the 2.5 hybrid is the cheaper, more efficient choice, while the 2.4-litre turbocharged hybrid in the top grade is quicker and brings the bigger wheels and better cabin.

The Toyota Camry costs far less and shares much of the mechanical package; the Crown buys the raised driving position, more rear space and a better-finished interior. The Honda Accord is the sharper drive for the money, though bodywork is the segment's story on it: 78% of the Accords we inspect in the UAE carry evidence of prior body or panel repair, against the 66% we would expect for sedans of the same age and mileage here.

The Crowns we inspect in the UAE come in at a median of around 26,000 km, so you are buying original wear items and, on most cars, warranty still to run. The hybrid system is a developed version of the one that has done a decade of taxi service in the Camry, so the drivetrain is not what to check here — the paperwork is.
