Asking prices extend from roughly AED 78,000 for an older example up to AED 78,000 for a newer one. The platform has barely changed since launch, so what separates two similarly aged cars is almost always the options list and how it was looked after.

The Macan S cars we inspect here run a median of around 120,000 km, a normal figure for a compact luxury SUV in daily use.

Stepping up to a Cayenne buys more space for more money, useful only if the smaller footprint here is not the point. The Toyota Land Cruiser is far dearer but holds 63%, the strongest figure in this comparison. The BMW X5 is dearer and shows less prior body or panel repair than expected, at 44% against the 65% we would expect for SUVs of this age. The Tesla Model Y is dearer too and holds 43%, a step behind the Macan S on retention.

One platform has carried the Macan since 2014, refreshed in 2019 with updated interior electronics and lighting. A car from 2019 onward is the one to target for those updates alone.

Better than most of its size class — about 49% after five years, ahead of the 44% we would expect for compact SUVs of similar age and mileage in the UAE, though still short of the 56% Porsche manages across its full line-up.
