A 2018 CX-3 has changed hands at about AED 31,000 in our UAE sales, the level to have in mind for a mid-life car. Buying used rather than new saves about 31% on this model. Our live listings run from AED 52000 for an early example up to AED 52000 for one of the last built.

Longer than its size suggests. The CX-3s we inspect in the UAE reach a median of about 95,000 km, and no fault category stands out against what we would expect for small SUVs of the same age and mileage in the country. The 2.0-litre Skyactiv engine and conventional automatic are simple, long-lived units, so the service book tells you more than the odometer.

The ASX is plainer and sturdier and the cheapest of the three to keep on the road. The Nissan Kicks undercuts the Mazda on price but not on finish, and 59% of the ones we inspect carry prior body or panel repair against the 53% expected for small SUVs of that age and mileage here. Step up to the Volkswagen Tiguan only if you need the space.

2018 to 2021. The CX-3 launched in 2015 and was updated for 2018 with better cabin materials, more sound insulation and a stiffer structure, then ran to the early 2020s before the CX-30 took over. A 2018-onward car is the good version of a finished model — sensible money, parts still easy.

Better than the class — about 58% of its value after five years, against roughly 55% for small SUVs of similar age, and 53% across used Mazdas. The Mitsubishi ASX is the one that beats it, at about 60%.
